He later became a trusted confidant of President Suharto and led the Army Strategic Reserves Command (KOSTRAD) as Pangkostrad.

Despite facing accusations and a brief imprisonment for supporting alleged acts of terror, he remained popular among the people, students, and soldiers. He was an iconic figure, especially among the youth in West Java and Jakarta.
Pak Ton’s friendship with Prabowo’s family, including his late uncle and father, showcased his strong ties to the community. His career in the TNI, particularly in Kodam Siliwangi, demonstrated his dedication to strengthening unity between the military and the people. Despite facing challenges, Pak Ton’s legacy as a brave and outspoken leader resonated with those who knew him.
Both Pak Kemal Idris and Pak Ton exemplified exemplary leadership qualities, leaving a lasting impact on those who served with them. Their dedication to the nation and commitment to guiding the next generation of leaders serve as inspiration for future military leaders in Indonesia.
