Sainz dan Vowles: Kisah Ghosting yang Terungkap

Netflix’s “Drive to Survive” may be criticized for creating drama, but sometimes that drama reflects reality. In the latest season’s fourth episode, Carlos Sainz was seen haunting James Vowles and Williams last summer, extending what Vowles assumed was a done deal. The episode, titled “Carlos Signs,” follows the 30-year-old Spanish driver as he navigates his way after being ousted from his Ferrari seat by Lewis Hamilton. Sainz expressed sadness at being replaced by the seven-time world champion, stating his intention to negotiate and secure a good deal for himself.

The paddock was abuzz with speculation that Sainz would perform well at his home race after Vowles was seen holding a secret meeting with Sainz’s manager, Carlos “Caco” OƱoro. Zak Brown of McLaren was caught informing Lando Norris about Caco and Vowles having breakfast together, while Norris revealed Sainz’s dilemma between Williams and Sauber (soon to be Audi). Paul Smith, Red Bull’s Director of Communications and Social Media, was heard telling Christian Horner that Williams was almost certain to acquire Sainz.

Vowles was confident that the contract would be signed that night, even joking that signing a driver is similar to dating. However, the episode ended with the Williams team waiting for Sainz’s arrival to finalize the contract, but he didn’t show up, citing a call from Flavio Briatore as a reason for his change of heart. Eventually, after evaluating various options, Sainz signed a two-year contract with Williams at the end of July. And as Vowles congratulated his new driver, Sainz walked into the hotel’s conference room to formalize the contract signing.
