Prabowo Announces Record-Breaking Rp 757.8 Trillion Education Budget for 2026

President Prabowo Subianto recently addressed the House of Representatives, emphasizing his administration’s dedication to youth education in Indonesia during his State Budget 2026 Financial Note speech. He highlighted the historic allocation of Rp 757.8 trillion (approximately USD 47 billion) for education in the upcoming budget, the largest amount ever allocated for this purpose in the nation’s history. Prabowo emphasized the transformative power of education in producing globally competitive human resources and eradicating poverty. Ensuring effective use of education funds was also a key focus, with priorities including improving teacher welfare, enhancing vocational training, and aligning curricula with labor market demands. Specific initiatives under the budget include the Smart Indonesia Program for 21.1 million students, scholarships for 1.2 million university students, and funds for upgrading school and campus facilities. The President also highlighted the importance of strengthening People’s Schools and Garuda Excellence Schools to provide quality education to underprivileged children. Furthermore, the government aims to expand opportunities for Indonesian students to study at top universities through scholarships provided by the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education. Prabowo concluded by stressing the need to advance Indonesia’s capabilities in STEM fields, underscoring the importance of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics for the country’s future development.
